Custom Fabrication Project

Recently, we completed a large custom ductwork project for a worldwide leading supplier of cement, aggregates and concrete building materials.
Our customer converted one of their factories from an existing "wet" cement-making process to a more energy efficient "dry" process. In the “dry” process, the raw material is preheated before entering the kiln and the hot gases are used to preheat the material.
Schebler fabricated heavy steel ductwork to vent the gases used in, and produced by the process. Each fabrication was custom constructed to the specific design and standards required for the application. The project was completed over the course of four months with the skill and knowledge of 12 craftsmen and two shifts of operation.
Two round horizontal ducts (50 feet x 12 feet diameter and 30 feet x 12 feet diameter), two square-to-round fittings (14 feet x 15 feet rectangle transitioned to a 12 feet diameter), two 12-feet diameter 90-degree elbow fittings, and multiple other rectangular and t-shaped fittings were fabricated and painted to support the plant conversion.
The various components were primarily constructed of 1/4 to 3/8 inch hot-rolled carbon steel and six to 12 inch I-beams. The parts were MIG (GMAW) welded to American Welding Society D-1 weld standard by certified welders using roughly 2,000 pounds of weld wire. Each unit was also shot-blasted and coated with a zinc primer paint in order to withstand up to 750 degrees Fahrenheit. Once completed, the fabrications traveled over 1,000 miles on 10 different semi-trailer trucks to their final destination for installation.
